Connect activities get learners ready to learn. Choose one or two of the activities below to introduce this week's lesson.
Fun: Strength in Weakness
(5–8 minutes, difficult set-up)
Learners will participate in a demonstration showing that strength is not always as important as being moldable by God.
Provide two thin fabric gloves and Elmer’s® glue. Prepare one glove as described below.
Discussion: Punishment vs. Discipline
(5–8 minutes, easy set-up)
Learners will discuss the difference between punishment and discipline.
Life and Times: Conviction
(5–8 minutes, easy set-up)
Learners will listen to a story describing one woman’s conviction to minister to the people who killed her husband.

Relational: Difficult Discipline

Learners will discuss times of seemingly senseless punishment and how they can learn from discipline.
Explore
Explore activities lead learners to study Scripture. Teach the Key Study to focus on the Biblical Truth. If you choose, support the Key Study with one or two of the following activities.
Interactive Core Study: Caleb the Spy

Learners will study Numbers 14:20-38 to discover Caleb’s faithful trust in God’s promises.
Provide a copy of the Learner Worksheet and a pen for each learner.

Learners will consider the history of the Israelites leading up to this moment of disobedience.

Choose one or two Transform activities to challenge learners to live differently. Keep in mind that the Holy Spirit ultimately brings about change, so help students draw near to Him.
Discoverers: Trust God

Learners will identify ways to trust in God’s plan for their lives despite opposition.
Provide an index card and pen for each learner.
Owners: Facing the Giants
(5-8 minutes, easy set-up)
Learners will discuss a movie that deals with obeying God before seeing results despite obstacles.
Servants: Serve without Grumbling
(5–8 minutes, easy set-up)
Learners will discuss why trusting God allows them to serve Him without grumbling.

Shepherds: A Lifetime of Faith
(5–8 minutes, easy set-up)
Learners will discuss the value of a lifetime of faith.

Take Home Activity
The Take Home Activity gives families the opportunity to study the biblical passage together and discuss how each member of the family might apply the truths from the lesson to his or her life.
Family Devotion
(10-15 minutes at home, easy set-up)
Distribute copies of the Family Devotion to students and encourage them to share the devotion with their family.
