Connect Activity

Connect activities get everyone ready to learn. Consider your small group’s learning style as you choose one of the activities below to introduce this week’s lesson.

(8-10 minutes, easy setup)
Learners will determine the reasons why some old laws were written.
Provide an index card and marker for each group. Groups will need a smart phone.

(10 minutes, easy setup)
Learners will discuss rules they once resisted but now understand.

Explore Activity

Explore activities lead people to study Scripture. Teach one of the Core Studies to focus on the Biblical Truth. If you choose, support the Core Study with one or two of the additional activities.

(15–20 minutes, easy setup)
Provide a copy of the Learner Worksheet and a pen for each learner.
Learners will study Matthew 5:17-20 to understand how Jesus affirmed the significance of the Old Testament.

Provide sixteen blank sheets of paper, colored markers, scissors, and tape OR copies of the
Jesus: Image of the Invisible learner book. Learners will compare passages explaining ways that Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament.

Transform Activity

Transform activities challenge your group to live differently. Choose one of the activities based on the spiritual growth of your group. Keep in mind that the Holy Spirit ultimately brings about change, so help people draw near to Him.

Learners will search for Old Testament verses that document God’s faithful promises.
Provide a dry erase board and markers. Also provide Bibles with concordances or allow learners to use their smart phones or iPads.

Learners will discuss how the Old Testament helps them tell others about Jesus.

Take Home Activity

The Take Home Activity gives families the opportunity to study the biblical passage together and discuss how each member of the family might apply the truths from the lesson to his or her life.

Distribute copies of the Family Devotion to students and encourage them to share the devotion with their family.
