Comparative Study: Fulfilled

(10 minutes, easy setup)
Provide sixteen blank sheets of paper, colored markers, scissors, and tape OR copies of the
Jesus: Image of the Invisible learner book. Learners will compare passages explaining ways that Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament.

Create clues for learners to match by writing one set of Scripture passages from the list below on separate sheets of paper. Write the Old Testament reference on the left side of the page and the New Testament reference on the right side of the page, and then cut the page apart into two puzzle pieces. Using a different color marker for each sheet will help learners match the clues.

Option 1: Instruct learners to turn to pages 11-12 in the Jesus: Image of the Invisible learner book. Point out that Jesus fulfilled hundreds of prophecies from the Old Testament and that they’ve looked at several of them in their study this week. Lead learners to discuss the prophecies and their fulfillment as listed on pages 11-12 in the learner book.

Option 2: Distribute clues (prepared according to instructions in the paragraph above) to learners. Explain that Jesus fulfilled hundreds of Old Testament prophecies, so learners will compare just a few of them now. Instruct learners to look up the verses listed on their clues, write a brief summary of the verses, and then find the person holding the matching prophecy or fulfillment. (Example: The learner holding Micah 5:2 will write, “A ruler will be born in Bethlehem” and then match it with Matthew 2:1 who wrote, “Jesus was born in Bethlehem.”) Allow time for learners to look up and match their clues and then lead them to identify each way that Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament prophecy.

After learners complete the activity, ask: How do these fulfilled prophecies further emphasize the importance of the Old Testament? What does this fulfillment of prophecy reveal about the reliability of God’s Word? About God’s faithfulness to His promises?
