Connect activities get students ready to learn. Choose one or two of the activities below to introduce this week’s lesson.
Review Questions
(5–8 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will answer five review questions from the previous lesson.
Print one copy of the “Review Questions” activity sheet for your use.
Especially for Younger Students: Eager to Test
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will discuss what kinds of tests they would be eager to take.
Provide a dry erase board and marker.
Especially for Older Students: Physical Challenge
(10 minutes, moderate set-up)
Students will participate in a contest of stamina to demonstrate perseverance.
Provide enough dumbbells, heavy books, or gallon jugs filled with water to give two to each participant.
Master Teacher Option: Physical Challenge

Explore
Explore activities lead students to study Scripture. Teach the Key Study to focus on the Biblical Truth. If you choose, support the Key Study with one or two of the following activities.
Interactive Core Study: Growing Faith
(15-20 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will study James 1:2-4, 12-17 to examine how true faith is strengthened and matured through trials and temptations.
Provide a copy of the Student Worksheet and a pen for each student. Also provide a dry erase board and marker.
Master Teacher Key Study: Growing Faith
(15–20 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will study James 1:2-4, 12-17 to examine how true faith is strengthened and matured through trials and temptations.
Print one copy of the Master Teacher Key Study for your use. Provide a copy of the Student Worksheet and a pen for each student.
Especially for Younger Students: How Jesus Handled Temptation
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will discuss how Jesus handled temptation.
Provide a dry erase board and marker.
Especially for Older Students: The Blame Game
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will discuss who should be blamed for the temptation to sin.
Transform
Choose one or two Transform activities to challenge students to live differently. Keep in mind that the Holy Spirit ultimately brings about change, so help students draw near to Him.
Deeper Discussion
(5-10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will discuss ways they might publicly express their belief in Jesus.
Especially for Younger Students: The Battle Outside and Inside
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will discuss the difference between trials and temptations.
Provide a dry erase board and marker.
Especially for Older Students: Match for Temptation
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will match relevant verses to certain temptations.
Print one copy of the Temptation Match activity sheet and cut apart as directed.
Master Teacher Option: Match for Temptation
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will match relevant verses to certain temptations.
Print a copy of the Temptation Match activity sheet, cut apart, and place pieces in an envelope. Provide a filled envelope for each group.
Take Home Activity
The Take Home Activity gives families the opportunity to study the biblical passage together and discuss how each member of the family might apply the truths from the lesson to his or her life.
Family Devotion
(10-15 minutes at home, easy set-up)
Distribute copies of the Family Devotion to students and encourage them to share the devotion with their family.
