Deeper Discussion

(5-10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will discuss ways they might publicly express their belief in Jesus.

Learning Goal: Students will identify how they can respond to trials in ways that help mature their faith.

Use the following prompts to lead students to discuss how they can respond to trials and temptations in ways that strengthen and mature their faith.

What are some trials and temptations that teenagers face today?
Given the chance to go through a trial or avoid it, what would you do and why?
Why is it hard to persevere through trials? To resist temptation?
How can we begin to “find joy” in the trials and temptations that God allows us to face?

Emphasize that because The Holy Spirit is God and Empowerer, believers can rely on God’s guidance and comfort when they face trials and temptations of any kind. Point out that although these situations are difficult to go through, when we draw near to God in them, He draws near to us to help us through them. Stress that when we walk through hard times with God, our faith in Him is strengthened. Close by praying that students will immediately turn to God when they face any trial or temptation so they can see His presence in their lives.
