Connect activities get students ready to learn. Choose one or two of the activities below to introduce this week’s lesson.
Review Questions
(5–8 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will answer five review questions from the previous lesson.
Print one copy of the “Review Questions” activity sheet for your use.
Especially for Younger Students: Who Am I?
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will try to identify each other from clues given.
Provide an index card and pen for each student.
Especially for Older Students: What Do People Think?
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will discuss what believers and non-believers might think about Jesus.
Provide a dry erase board and a marker.
Master Teacher Option: Who Am I?
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will try to identify each other from clues given.
Provide an index card and pen for each student.
Explore
Explore activities lead students to study Scripture. Teach the Key Study to focus on the Biblical Truth. If you choose, support the Key Study with one or two of the following activities.
Interactive Core Study: The Cheers of the People
(15–20 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will study Luke 19:28-40 to examine how Jesus’ divinity was proclaimed in His entrance into Jerusalem.
Provide a copy of the Student Worksheet and a pen for each student. Also provide paper, a dry erase board, and markers. Provide two long sheets of paper and markers. On one sheet, write “On My Own Strength,” and on the other write, “Under the Power of Jesus Christ.”
Master Teacher Key Study: The Cheers of the People
(15–20 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will study Luke 19:28-40 to examine how Jesus’ divinity was proclaimed in His entrance into Jerusalem.
Print one copy of the Master Teacher Key Study for your use. Provide a copy of the Student Worksheet and a pen for each student.
Especially for Younger Students: Why Not a Horse?
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will consider the meaning of Jesus riding a donkey into Jerusalem.
Provide a dry erase board and marker.
Especially for Older Students: Picture the Setting
(10 minutes, moderate set-up)
Students will consider the setting of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
Provide a dry erase board and marker.
Transform
Choose one or two Transform activities to challenge students to live differently. Keep in mind that the Holy Spirit ultimately brings about change, so help students draw near to Him.
Deeper Discussion
(5–10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will discuss how they continue to respond to Jesus’ entrance into their lives.
Especially for Younger Students: Jesus to Me
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will write who Jesus is to them.
Provide paper and a pen for each student. Create a presentation slide as described below.
Especially for Older Students: Questions about Jesus
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will personally consider the question, “Who is Jesus?”
Be prepared to share your story of how you trusted Jesus with your life.
Master Teacher Option: Jesus to Me
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will write who Jesus is to them.
Provide paper and a pen for each student. Create a presentation slide as described below.
Take Home Activity
The Take Home Activity gives families the opportunity to study the biblical passage together and discuss how each member of the family might apply the truths from the lesson to his or her life.
Family Devotion
(10-15 minutes at home, easy set-up)
Distribute copies of the Family Devotion to students and encourage them to share the devotion with their family.
