Connect activities get students ready to learn. Choose one or two of the activities below to introduce this week’s lesson.
Especially for Younger Students: What Are Your Favorite Things?
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will draw pictures of their favorite things and discuss why they are thankful for those things.
Provide pens and white paper. (If you prefer, you can create the labeled sheet and make enough copies to distribute to students.)
Especially for Older Students: Saying Thank You
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will describe different ways they might say “thank you” to someone.
Provide paper and a pen for each group.
Master Teacher Option: What Are Your Favorite Things?

Explore
Explore activities lead students to study Scripture. Teach the Key Study to focus on the Biblical Truth. If you choose, support the Key Study with one or two of the following activities.
Interactive Core Study: True Gratitude
(15-20 minutes, moderate set-up)
Students will study Luke 17:11-19 to understand how ten lepers responded when Jesus healed them.
Provide a copy of the Student Worksheet and a pen for each student. Also provide a dry erase board, dry erase marker, and a bowl of tap water. Optional: Provide a map of the regions of Samaria and Galilee during the time of Christ.
Master Teacher Key Study: True Gratitude
(15-20 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will study Luke 17:11-19 to understand how ten lepers responded when Jesus healed them.
Print one copy of the Master Teacher Key Study for your use. Provide a copy of the Student Worksheet and a pen for each student.
Especially for Younger Students: Why Should I Be Grateful?
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will examine Psalm 145 to find reasons to be grateful for God’s provision.
Provide a dry erase board and marker.
Especially for Older Students: Why Didn’t He?
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will compare the story of the healing of the ten lepers (Luke 17:11-19) with the story of the rich young ruler (Luke 18:18-23).
Transform
Choose one or two Transform activities to challenge students to live differently. Keep in mind that the Holy Spirit ultimately brings about change, so help students draw near to Him.
Deeper Discussion
(5–10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will discuss how to thank God for the blessings in their lives.
Especially for Younger Students: Count Your Blessings
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will reflect on the blessings they have experienced in their lives.
Provide a sheet of paper and a pen for each student. Also provide a dry erase board and marker.
Especially for Older Students: How Would You Respond?
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will role-play different scenarios to show what it looks like to be grateful to God.
