Teaching Plan

The Customizable Teaching Plan is where you will find every activity needed for an amazing time of Bible Study with your students.

  • There are four different plans to choose from, Complete, Younger, Older, and Master Teacher. (Although activities have been carefully designed with age-appropriate behavior, topics, and learning styles in mind, you know your own group better than anyone – feel free to customize your plan to best fit your group’s personality and needs.)
  • Each plan is broken into three sections: Connect, Explore, and Transform.
  • Simply click on the activity titles below to see each activity.
  • Activity PDFs can be downloaded within the specific activity window.

Connect

Connect options are fun ways to introduce each lesson's theme(s). Your choices for Connect activities include:

  • Book Option—An activity to introduce everyone to the lesson’s theme, using an illustration from the corresponding chapter of David Platt’s book: Radical.
  • Age Specific Options—Additional activities to further peak the interest of younger and older students.

Explore

Explore options are where Bible Study happens. Your choices for Explore activities include:

  • The Interactive Key Study—An interactive, discussion-based small group Bible Study guide, utilizing illustrations from Radical and focusing on the Biblical Passage
  • The Master Teacher Key Study—A sermon-style Bible Study outline with key points, illustrations from Radical, applications, and follow-up discussion questions, focusing on the Biblical Passage
  • Supplemental Scripture—An additional biblical text to further explore a theme
  • Video Option—A short video clip of additional biblical teaching from David Platt (The video is available in the Media Tab at the top of the online Bible Study Manager.)

Transform

Transform options help your students apply the lesson's truths. Your choices for Transform activities include:

  • Age Specific Options—Application activities developed specifically for younger and older students
  • Creative Prayer—Interactive ways to pray

Connect Activity

Book Option: Marketing Message

(10-15 minutes)
Students will brainstorm taglines before discussing a section from Chapter 1 in the Radical book and Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s concise summary of the Christian message.

Younger Student Option: Fire Drill

(5-10 minutes)
Students will use sticky notes to consider what they value most and why.

Older Student Option: Hoarders

(10-15 minutes)
Students will examine our tendency to cling to our possessions by reacting to the television show Hoarders.

Explore Activity

Interactive Key Study: The Cost of Following Christ

(15-20 minutes)
Students will study Luke 14:25-33 and consider the costs involved in being a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Master Teacher Key Study: The Cost of Following Christ

(15-20 minutes)
Students will study Luke 14:25-33 and consider the costs involved in being a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Supplemental Scripture: Follow Me

(10 minutes)
Students will study Matthew 4:18-22 and examine the response of the first disciples to Jesus’ call.

Video Option: Don't We Believe This Book

(7-10 minutes)
Students will watch a short clip of David Platt preaching and consider how seriously they will take the words of Jesus.

Transform Activity

Younger Student Option: Open-Handed

(5-10 minutes)
Students will create lists in order to recognize that Christ calls His followers to trust Him with everything.

Old Student Option: The Good. The Bad. The Worthy

(5-10 minutes)
Students will consider specific ways Christ calls them to not only leave sin but to surrender every area of their life.

Prayer Option: Follower's Prayer

(5-10 minutes)
Students will follow a simple prayer of total surrender to Christ.
