Connect activities get students ready to learn. Choose one or two of the activities below to introduce this week’s lesson.
Especially for Younger Students: You Make the Law
(10 minutes, easy set up)
Students will create special laws for their schools that they know that students cannot follow.
Provide paper and pens for each group. Also provide a dry erase board and marker.
Especially for Older Students: The Whole Picture
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will try to figure out the whole picture from just a small portion of a painting
Provide paper and a pen for each student. Either save two pictures on your computer or print two pictures as follows: In the first picture, print an enlargement of only a small section of a painting, such as Claude Monet’s Impression, Sunrise. In the second picture, show the entire painting.
Master Teacher Option: The Whole Picture

Provide paper and a pen for each student. Create a slide show. On the first slide, enlarge a small section for a painting, such as Claude Monet’s Impression, Sunrise. On the second slide, show the entire painting.
Explore
Explore activities lead students to study Scripture. Teach the Key Study to focus on the Biblical Truth. If you choose, support the Key Study with one or two of the following activities.
Interactive Key Study: Jesus is the Fulfillment
(15-20 minutes, easy set up)
Students will study Matthew 5:17-20 to understand how Jesus affirmed the significance of the Old Testament.
Provide a copy of the Student Worksheet and a pen for each student. Also provide a dry erase board and dry erase markers.
Master Teacher Key Study: Jesus is the Fulfillment
(15-20 minutes, easy set up)
Students will study Matthew 5:17-20 to understand how Jesus affirmed the significance of the Old Testament.
Print one copy of the Master Teacher Key Study for your use. Provide a copy of the Student Worksheet and a pen for each student.
Especially for Younger Students: Small Marks
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will consider the meaning of “smallest letter” and “least stroke of a pen” in Hebrew.
Provide a dry erase board and marker.
Especially for Older Students: Fulfilled Prophecy
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will compare passages explaining ways that Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament.
Write each pair of Scripture verses listed below on a slip of paper.
Transform
Choose one or two Transform activities to challenge students to live differently. Keep in mind that the Holy Spirit ultimately brings about change, so help students draw near to Him.
Deeper Discussion
(5–10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will discuss the importance of the Old Testament in their faith journeys.
Especially for Younger Students: Faithful Promises
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will find Old Testament passages that document God’s faithful promises.
Provide pens, a dry erase board, and marker.
Especially for Older Students: Speaking about Jesus
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will consider how they can explain the nature of God to others.
Provide a dry erase board and marker.
Master Teacher Option: Let’s Talk about Jesus
(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will consider how they can explain the nature of God to others.
Create a slide show with the discussion questions listed below.
Take Home Activity
The Take Home Activity gives families the opportunity to study the biblical passage together and discuss how each member of the family might apply the truths from the lesson to his or her life.
Family Devotion
(10-15 minutes at home, easy set-up)
Distribute copies of the Family Devotion to students and encourage them to share the devotion with their family.
