God chose to use Mary, a young virgin, to be the mother of the Messiah.
Context
As a virgin, Mary could never have anticipated being the mother of the Messiah whom the Jews had waited for so many years. Yet when the angel Gabriel appeared to her, he came with the startling news that God had chosen to use her in bringing His Son to earth.
