Download the “Let the Punishment Fit the Crime” activity sheet. Separate the items along the dashed lines.
Learning Goal: Students will apply Godly principles of justice in their daily lives.
Say: You’ve heard the saying, “Let the punishment fit the crime.” Discuss how sometimes the punishment for certain actions seems harsh while at other times it seems too light. Ask: How do these qualify as examples of justice? Allow students to respond.
Next, divide students into five groups. Give each group a scenario from the “Let the Punishment Fit the Crime” activity sheet and prompt them to discuss how justice should be carried out. After a few minutes, ask the groups to share their responses.
Last, remind students that we Christians must always remember to look at things from God’s perspective––He is the author and creator of justice. Emphasize that every day provides an opportunity to do what is just and fair. Say: Since God is a just God, there is punishment for wrongdoing—but there is also another chance to do what is right.
