Especially for Older Students: Battle for Justice

(5–10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will discuss the definition of the word justice.

(5–10 minutes, easy set-up)

Learning Goal: Students will understand that God is just and fair.

Inform students that the word justice is used more than 130 times in Scripture. Then enlist students to look up and read the following passages aloud: Leviticus 19:15; Deuteronomy 16:19, 27:19; 1 Kings 3:28; Job 8:3; Psalm 33:5; Proverbs 17:23, 21:15; Isaiah 51:4; Micah 3:9; Matthew 12:18; Acts 17:31.

Afterward, ask: Now that you’ve heard the word justice used in several different contexts, what definition would you give to the word? Give students a hint by indicating that the word justice often appears with the words righteousness or right. Allow students to respond. Direct their thinking toward what is right and what is fair according to God. Help students understand that justice is part of God’s character and that He will never do anything that is unjust, unfair, or unrighteous.
