(7–8 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will create a spiritual family tree and consider who has influenced them toward Christ and whom they will influence toward Christ.
Draw your own spiritual family tree. Provide a sheet of paper and a pen for each student.
Share your spiritual family tree and explain that most people have a line of people behind them who were instrumental in helping them come to faith in Christ. Explain that you’ve provided each of them paper and markers so they can make their own spiritual family trees. Ask students to use the sheet of paper to write what they know about their spiritual family trees. To get them started, ask: Who helped you to become a Christian? Challenge students to go back as many “generations” as possible, finding out who was spiritually influential in the lives of those who shared Christ with them. After a few moments, ask: Would anyone be able to add you as part of their spiritual family tree? Explain that when a spiritual family tree stops with us, we are not fulfilling a big part of God's purpose in our lives. Tell students that today we will explore how Christ has commanded all of us to be a part of making disciples wherever we go.
