From High to Low Again
Across the board, create three columns, and at the top of the columns, write: “High,” “Low,” and “High Again.” Lead learners through the following questions:
- Read verse 6. How does this verse describe Jesus’ position with God? (Answers: He was equal with God; He was exalted in heaven.)
- Read verses 7-8 again. How do these verses describe how lowly Jesus’ position became? (Answers: He made Himself nothing—putting aside His position with God; He humbled Himself and became a servant; He willingly allowed His life to be taken in the cruelest and most painful way.)
- Read verses 9-11. How was Jesus rewarded for His obedience to God’s plan? (God “superexalted” Jesus to the highest place; He received everything He had given up for us and more from the Father.)
After discussion, ask: How did Jesus show submission to His Father? How will all people show submission to Jesus?
