The Theology about Jesus

Say: The word theology means the study of God, and it can be approached in several ways. The theology about Jesus is called Christology, and it involves understanding who Jesus is, what His nature is, and how He relates to and reflects God. Point out that Philippians 2:6-11 is one of the most important passages in the study of who Jesus is. On the board, write: THE NATURE OF JESUS. Share that as each verse is read, learners will have the opportunity to point out descriptive words and phrases that refer to His nature. Be prepared to list these on the board under the heading you’ve created. Possible responses include: He has the nature of God (v. 6); He came as a servant (v. 7a); He took on human form (v. 7b); He humbled Himself (v. 8a); He was obedient to God’s will (v. 8b); God exalted Him (v. 9); He is worthy of honor and praise (v. 10).
