Master Teacher Core Study: (un)EXPECTED
(15–20 minutes, easy set-up)
Learners will study Luke 1:26-38 to examine how Mary responded to God’s choice of her as the mother of the Messiah.
Print one copy of the Master Teacher Outline for your use. Provide a copy of the Learner Worksheet and a pen for each learner.
Pass out pens and copies of the Learner Worksheet. Use the Master Teacher Outline to teach Luke 1:26-38. Then, lead learners to discuss the following questions:
- How did Mary’s understanding of and belief in God give her confidence to obey Him despite the unexpected circumstances?
- When we distrust God’s word and calling in our lives, whom are we placing in control of our lives instead of Him?
- How did Mary’s obedience display her belief that she belonged to God, and His will was preeminent?
- What do our actions reveal about our priorities in life when we make our own happiness our main priority?
