(5-8 minutes, easy set-up)
Learners will discuss how people witnessed to them about Jesus.
Provide paper and pens.
Point out that the passages read today revealed that several people witnessed to the identity of Jesus as God’s Son and our Savior: the apostle John (Jn. 1:1-5, 14), John the Baptist (Jn. 5:33), God the Father (Jn. 5:37), the Scriptures (Jn. 5:39), Moses (Jn. 5:46); Jesus Himself (Jn 5:31, 47). Ask: Why do you think Scripture records so many witnesses to Jesus’ identity?
Distribute paper and pens to learners. Invite learners to list the names of people who shared Jesus’ true identity with them throughout the years. (Examples might include parents and other family members; pastors and Sunday School teachers; retreat and camp speakers; maybe teachers and coaches; friends, neighbors, teammates, or co-workers.) After a few moments, invite volunteers to share the names of people who witnessed to them about Jesus.
Lead learners to discuss:
After learners have responded, invite learners to silently respond to these questions: Based on this consistent testimony, what role does Jesus want to play in your life? Have you acknowledged Him as your Savior? If not, would you like to do that today? Conclude by praying that learners will respond to the testimony they have read and heard about Jesus by trusting Him as their Savior and choosing to dedicate their lives to serving Him.
