Learners will share how they identify themselves when meeting new people.

Instruct learners to form groups of three or four and to share with each other how they introduce themselves when meeting new people by discussing these questions:

When you introduce yourself to a new neighbor, what information do you share?
How does the information you share change when introducing yourself to a potential employer? To a new doctor?
Why do we emphasize different things when we introduce ourselves to new people?

Explain that in today’s lesson, the apostle John chose to emphasize specific facts about Jesus’ identity when he wrote the opening chapter in the gospel bearing his name.
