(5-8 minutes, easy set-up)
Learners will identify the main characters of popular book, movie, and television series.
Provide a dry erase board and markers.
On the dry erase board, write these popular book, movie, and television series titles: The Hobbit, Star Wars, and The Big Bang Theory.
Divide learners into three groups and assign each group one of the series listed on the board. Challenge groups to identify the main characters in their assigned series. After sixty second, invite a representative from each group to list their responses under the appropriate column. Ask: If you named any one of these characters during a conversation with a group of friends, how quickly would they identify the series? The importance of the character in the series? How would the series be affected if that character was eliminated?
Ask: Who are the main characters in the Bible? Allow learners to name a few people from the Bible, then explain that although there are many important people in the Bible, one person is essential to understanding God’s effort to have a relationship with humanity. Say: This irreplaceable central figure is Jesus. Conclude by saying: Today we’re going to begin a study of Christ, the central figure of our salvation.
