(10 minutes, moderate set-up)
Students will compete to name ways we can prove our identities.
Provide paper and pens, a dry erase board, and a marker.
Divide students into groups of four or five and provide each a sheet of paper and a pen. Instruct groups to create a list of as many ways as possible that we can prove our identities to others. While groups work, create a tally chart on the board with group numbers across the top. After two minutes, call time and assign each group an identifying number. Some possible responses are:
Determine which group has the most responses and award the group 5 points. Then, call on group 1 to share an identifier from its list and ask if any other groups have that response. If so, instruct all groups to mark out that identifier. Move to group 2 and repeat the process. Continue until all groups have shared and all identifiers shared by other groups have been eliminated. Award each group for unique responses that are shared by no other group(s) and identify the group with the most unique answers and award one point for each. Recognize the group with the most points. Say: In today’s lesson, we’ll look at how Scripture proves the identity of Jesus as the central figure of the Bible and as the One who offers salvation so people can be reconciled with God.
