(5–8 minutes, easy setup)
Learners will evaluate when and how they have personally responded to the risen Lord.
Provide index cards and pens. Provide a dry erase board and marker.
Ask: How would you describe the importance of Easter to someone who knows nothing about Jesus Christ? (Be aware that you may have learners who have not made a personal profession of faith in Christ, so be sensitive as you lead this discussion.) After responses, write the first stanza of the hymn Christ the Lord is Risen Today on the board: Christ the Lord is ris’n today, Alleluia. Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia. Raise your joys and triumps high, Alleluia. Sing, ye heav’ns and earth reply, Alleluia. Distribute index cards and pens to learners. Say: This hymn stanza provides wonderful pictures of how we should respond to the risen Lord.
Instruct learners to read the words on the board and to list on the index cards words and phrases that describe how they have personally have responded to Christ’s resurrection. After one minute, encourage learners to join another learner to discuss their responses. Share that any who would like to partner with you have that opportunity as well. After a minute or two of sharing between pairs, encourage each pair to pray for each other and the other learners as they seek to respond appropriately to the risen Lord.
