Deeper Discussion

(5–10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will discuss their responsibility to remain faithful to God’s Word, especially in the face of false teachings.

Learning Goal: Learners will identify ways that the Holy Spirit empowers them to live holy lives.

Lead students to discuss how they can rely on the power of the Holy Spirit rather than their own strength to live holy lives that are pleasing to God with the following questions:

Why did Jesus need the power of the Holy Spirit in His life?
What do you think it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit?
Can humans be filled with the Spirit to the same degree that Jesus was filled with the Spirit?
How can you recognize the power of the Holy Spirit in your life?
What would happen to the Church if every believer allowed the Holy Spirit full control of his or her life?

Emphasize that no one can achieve holiness on their own because holiness can only be found when believers allow the Holy Spirit complete control of their lives. Encourage students to spend time in individual prayer surrendering their will to the Holy Spirit so they may live a life that is pleasing to God.
