Servants: Acknowledging God’s Love

(5–8 minutes, easy setup)
Learners will discuss how to help those struggling focus on the love of God.

Share that Christmas is usually considered a joyous holiday filled with love, family, and presents. Ask: How can the holidays bring loneliness and depression to others? (The Christmas season can be a time where we are forced to acknowledge those who aren’t with us, it can shine light on our financial struggles, and it can also be a reminder that another year has passed and our lives aren’t what we thought they’d be.) Ask: How do we show God’s love to those who are struggling during the holidays?

Share that it isn’t only the holiday seasons that can bring pain and sadness. Express that many people are struggling with sickness, loneliness, addiction, disappointment, and a low sense of self worth. Say: When we’re experiencing a low point of life, it’s easy to feel abandoned by God. Ask: What has someone done to remind you of God’s love when you were experiencing a difficult time? What are some of the ways you are already ministering to people around you who are hurting? What can you do on a regular basis to remind others of the love of God? After a time of discussion, state that Jesus’ birth and death are the ultimate acts of love on God’s part––the kind of love that brings hope, comfort, and peace to those who choose to accept it. Conclude that as we move forward through this Christmas season, we need to keep an eye out for those who need to be introduced or reminded of the extravagant love of God. Lead learners in praying that God will bring people in our lives that could use the knowledge that there is a loving God who cares for them and wants to walk with them through their lives.
