Toddler: Craft Activity

(5 minutes)

Option #1

Supplies Needed: Circle-shaped cereal in different colors, Rainbow resource page, glue sticks

Teacher Note: If food allergies are an issue, the cereal can be replaced with half-inch squares of construction paper or tissue paper in a variety of colors.

Remind the children that God shows His power through creation. One of the special things God created to remind us of His love is the rainbow. Give each child a copy of the Rainbow resource page (see resources), glue stick, and a handful of cereal. Explain that they will fill the lines of the rainbow with the colorful cereal circles. Encourage the older children to fill one line with only green cereal circles, another line with only blue cereal circles, etc. This craft will promote color recognition and organizational skills.

Option #2

Supplies Needed: Small yellow paper plates, googly eyes, yellow tissue paper, scissors, black marker, glue sticks

Teacher Note: Cut the yellow tissue paper into two-inch squares. If yellow paper plates are unavailable, regular white paper plates can be painted with yellow tempera paint ahead of time

Give each child a yellow plate and a glue stick. Scatter the tissue squares in the center of the table for the children to share. Show the children how to glue the tissue squares around the edge of the plate to look like a sunshine. Move about the room helping each child glue a pair of googly eyes onto the sunshine. Use a marker to draw a smile. As the children work, talk about today’s lesson. Explain that when we see the sun, we can be reminded of God’s amazing power.
