(5–8 minutes, easy setup)
Provide a dry erase board and marker.
Encourage learners to read Romans 11:33 again. Ask: How does this verse describe God’s knowledge? (rich, deep, unsearchable, unfathomable) Discuss: How does God’s knowledge differ from our knowledge? (Not only is He more knowledgeable than us, but He knows everything about the past, the present, and the future. His knowledge is perfect and our knowledge is faulty.)
Invite volunteers to share a time when they made a decision based on their knowledge, and the decision turned out badly. (Examples might include buying a car that had many problems, taking a job they should not have or leaving a job they should have kept, making a bad investment, buying a house that turned into a money pit.) List a few examples on the board, and then lead learners to discuss: How could God, who is rich in knowledge and wisdom, use these bad decisions for good in our lives? (Example: Someone who buys a money pit develops DIY skills and eventually sells the house for a profit; or the terrible house is in a neighborhood where they were able to lead many people to Christ.)
Encourage volunteers to share a time when they faced difficult circumstances and responded by telling God what He needed to do to fix them. Ask: Looking back on the situation now, how would things have turned out if God did what you demanded? What did this experience teach you about God’s wisdom and knowledge?
Encourage learners to list on the back of their worksheets any circumstances where they are struggling to make a decision. Suggest learners list beside each circumstance what they feel God is telling them to do. Ask: Why is it easy to follow God’s guidance when we agree with it, but so hard to follow God’s guidance when we disagree or simply don’t understand it? After discussion, challenge learners to strengthen their trust of God’s infinite knowledge by following His guidance whether they understand and agree with Him or not.
Close by leading learners in prayer: God, we thank You that we can trust in Your infinite power, presence, and knowledge as we walk with You through this journey we call life. We are grateful that we can never escape Your presence, that we can depend on Your wisdom to guide us and Your power over all circumstances. Amen.
