(10 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will consider how they can explain the nature of God to others.
Create a slide show.
Prepare one slide listing all of the following questions: How can I know God exists when I can’t see Him? Where did God come from? Is it wrong to question God? Is there anything God cannot do? What was God doing before He created the universe? Is it wrong to be angry with God? What does it mean that God is eternal?
Learning Goal: Students will identify their struggles with comprehending the nature of God.
Ask: How many of you have been asked questions by friends about God that you couldn’t answer? Call for a show of hands. Ask: How did not being able to answer make you feel? Call on one or two students for responses. Display the list of questions on the slide and read through them. Explain that these are just a few of the questions that we might be asked, and that they were covered during this study.
Divide students into groups of three or four and assign each group one of the questions on the slide. Instruct students to work together to develop an answer for their assigned question. After several minutes, call for groups to share their responses. As needed, help clarify their answers and correct any misconceptions about God. Then, lead students to discuss within their small groups: Does clarifying these answers about God help you in your understanding of Him? Why? Can it help you the next time you have friends with questions about God? How?
After discussion, encourages students to voice sentence prayers in their groups as you lead with the following prompts:
