Students will consider how they can explain the nature of God to others.
Provide a dry erase board and marker.
Learning Goal: Students will identify their struggles with comprehending the nature of God.
Ask: What questions have you been asked by friends about God that you couldn’t answer? As these are given, list the questions on the board. (If needed, include some of these questions: How can I know God exists when I can’t see Him? How do we know that God created the world instead of a big bang? Why does God want us to worship Him?)
After the list is complete, divide students into groups of three or four and assign each group one of the questions on the board. Instruct students to work together to develop an answer for their assigned question. After several minutes, call for groups to share their responses. As needed, help clarify their answers and correct any misconceptions about God. Then, lead students to discuss: Does clarifying these answers about God help you in your understanding of Him? Why? Can it help you the next time you have friends with questions about God? How?
After discussion, encourages students to voice sentence prayers in their groups as you lead with the following prompts:
