Learners will discuss a quote about what determines how they behave.

Active: Thinking and Acting
(5–8 minutes, easy set-up)

Read aloud the following quote by Christian theologian, writer, and author Francis Schaeffer: “People are unique in the inner life of the mind––what they are in their thought world determines how they act.” Then ask: When you think that you have to rely on yourself, how do you act? (Answer: Behavior may go from one extreme to another depending on performance; prideful/despairing; controlling/out of control; selfish/careless.) When you think that you can rely on Christ, how do you act differently? (Behavior is stable, confident, courageous, assured even in difficult circumstances.) Following discussion, share that today’s lesson focuses on dying to an old way of thinking and living.
