Preschool: End-of-Day Activities
(10 minutes or until the parents pick up their children)
Supplies Needed: Children’s books
Teacher Note: These are activities to do while waiting for the parents to pick up their children. Remember that parents will come at different times. If possible, have one teacher at the door saying “good-bye” to the students as they leave. Have another teacher engaging the rest of the class in an activity to keep their attention.
Teacher Note: Before beginning this activity, arrange chairs in lines to resemble how people sit at a church service. Place two chairs at the front of the seating area to face the audience. If your church usually has a small podium or instructor stand at the front, place a podium or stand at the front of your classroom if possible.
- For this activity, students will participate in a similar version of the church worship service that their parents are attending. A teacher should instruct the students to take a seat. Remind them of today’s Treasure Story and how the Magi began worshiping Jesus as soon as they saw Him. Discuss how worship can come in many forms. During a worship service, people may pray to God, learn about Him as the preacher teaches from the Bible, and sing praise songs to God. When the children are older, they will be able to attend the worship service at church. For the children’s version of worship, lead the students in singing simple songs like “Jesus Loves Me.” Also read a few Bible verses. Remind the children that the church service is our time to worship God with others.
- Have the children sit in a semi-circle on the floor as they listen to you read them a book.
