(10 minutes)
Supplies Needed: Empty boxes, wrapping paper, tape, scissors, bows, large bag
Teacher Note: Additional activities for today’s lesson can be found on the Bible Study Manager page for this lesson. Look for the tab labeled “Extra Resources.”
Teacher Note: Prior to class, wrap a few empty boxes in wrapping paper and decorate with bows to use as gifts for today’s activity. Store the gifts in a large bag until you are ready for this activity.
Instruct the students to sit in a circle on the floor. One at a time, pull the presents from the bag and begin to pass them around the circle. Ask the students to describe times when they might receive special presents like the ones being passed around the circle. We all like to receive gifts, and most of the time gifts are given to us by the people who love us the most. They might give us gifts as a way to show us that they love us.
In today’s Treasure Story, Jesus received special gifts from the Magi. The Magi had traveled very far to see Jesus. They brought Him gifts because they knew that He was a very special child. Jesus was the Promised One who had come to save people from the enemy. These gifts showed how much the Magi loved Jesus and worshiped Him. Remind the students that the gifts Jesus received from the men were gifts fit for a king.
