(10 minutes)
Supplies Needed: Small Bible wrapped in a box with a bow, Teaching Aid resource page
Teacher Note: Have the children form a semi-circle on the story time rug. Start your story time with a few stretches to get the wiggles out. Go over your expectations for Bible Story Time (hands in their laps, feet on the floor, listen to you when it is your turn to talk, etc.). Make sure you have the Bible open on your lap while you tell the story.
Below is a Bible story that you can read word-for-word to your students.
Teacher Note: Before class begins, place a small Bible inside a box and wrap it with wrapping paper and a bow.
I have something special to show you. This is a gift. Sometimes we give gifts for a special day, like a birthday or Christmas. In a few minutes, I am going to let you help me open this gift, but first we are going to hear a story from the Bible about some very special gifts.
The Bible tells us that the greatest gift ever given was not in a box with a bow. The greatest gift was Jesus, God’s Son. When Jesus was born, God placed a special star in the sky. Far away, some wise men noticed the star and knew that it meant something exciting was happening. They knew that Jesus, the King, had been born.
Teacher Note: Show the Teaching Aid resource page (see extra resources tab) at this time.
The wise men followed the star until they found Jesus. When they arrived, they gave Him some special gifts. It was a very special day to celebrate. They were filled with joy because God had given the world the greatest gift of all: His Son, Jesus!
Now we are going to open this present together, but first I am going to give you a hint about what is inside. It is a gift to each of us from God, and it tells us about Jesus. Can you guess what it is? Let’s open it together! Come help me!
The Bible is God’s Word. The story we learned today is true because it is in the Bible. All of God’s words are true.
