Preschool: Treasure Verse Learning Activity

(10 minutes)
Supplies Needed: Treasure Verse resource page, scissors, cardstock, colored index cards, marker

Teacher Note: Before class, copy the Treasure Verse resource page onto cardstock (see resources). Cut out the squares so that each child will have a copy. Place the copies in the classroom’s treasure box. Once the children say their verse, they can pull out a copy to take home. Be sure to encourage the parents to post it at home on the refrigerator as a reminder for the children. Also prior to class, write one word from the Treasure Verse on a set of colored index cards (one word per card). Hide the cards in the classroom before the students arrive.

Today’s Treasure Verse is Exodus 19:5-6a: “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice . . . you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”

Instruct students to find the hidden index cards and play the “Hot/Cold Game” as they are searching. Once all the cards have been found, direct children to sit in a semi-circle. Assemble the cards so that all the students can see the completed verse. Point to each word and ask the students to repeat the word after you. The students can also clap each time they say a word from the verse.

As the children are ready, they may say the verse to one of the teachers and retrieve a verse card from the treasure box. Children may continue to practice with another teacher until they are ready to recite the verse.
