(10 minutes or until you are ready to begin)
Supplies Needed: Pairs of opposites (such as salt and pepper)
Teacher Note: Additional activities for today’s lesson can be found on the Bible Study Manager page for this lesson. Look for the tab labeled “Extra Resources.”
Teacher Note: Prior to class, prepare examples or gather items that would help the children understand opposites. For example, bring to class containers of salt and pepper or a pencil and eraser. With this activity, you could also turn the lights on and off to show light and dark or ask for volunteers to stop and go.
As children arrive, invite them to take a seat. Explain to the class that opposites are two things completely different from one another. For example, night and day or up and down. Show them the items that you brought from home and ask the students to explain why the items are opposites. Encourage them to name other pairs of opposites.
Explain that in today’s Treasure Story, students will learn about a time when the Israelites did the opposite of what God had asked of them. They created an idol to worship when God had commanded that they only worship Him.
