Kids: Early Arrival Activity

(15 minutes or until all your students arrive)
Supplies Needed: Modeling clay, Worship God Only Unscramble resource page, pencils

Teacher Note: Additional activities for today’s lesson can be found on the Bible Study Manager page for this lesson. Look for the tab labeled “Extra Resources.”

In today’s Treasure Story, students will learn about Israel’s sin of idolatry. To introduce this story, pass out modeling clay to your students. Direct them to use the clay to make any animal shape. Introduce the concept of idols by asking these questions: “Does the animal you made have any power? Is it alive? Would you worship what you just created?” Explain that some people in the world worship powerless idols like these lifeless animals instead of the one true God.

After they have made their animals, tell students to crush their figures. Explain that they will soon hear a story of the Israelites worshiping something they created rather than God. When Moses came down the mountain, he crushed the idol.

If your students finish before everyone has arrived, pass out the Worship God Only Unscramble resource page (see resources). The first letter of each word has been capitalized to give the students a starting place. Each word relates to today’s Treasure Story.
