Comparative Study: God Is . . .

(5–8 minutes, easy setup)
Learners will compare Psalm 139 with Jeremiah 1:5, Job 31:4, Romans 11:33, and John 1:47-49 to explore the character of God.

(5–8 minutes, easy setup)
Provide a dry erase board and a marker. Write the following Scripture passages on the dry erase board: Jeremiah 1:5; Job 31:4; Romans 11:33; and John 1:47-49.

Explain that biblical writers throughout Scripture gave examples of the knowledge, presence, and love of God. Assign volunteers to read each of the verses listed on the board. As each verse is read, ask: “How does this passage agree with Psalm 139? Lead the learners to discuss the similarities of each passage before moving on to the next.

After the learners have discussed each of the passages on the board, ask: How do these Scripture passages together provide a more complete picture of God? Do we see God’s great love from these? How? Conclude by emphasizing the certainty of God’s presence in every aspect of the learners’ lives and how greatly they are loved.
