Provide a dry erase board and markers. (Download the eligibility requirements for U. S. citizens provided by the U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, found at http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=86bd6811264a3210VgnVCM100000b92ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=86bd6811264a3210VgnVCM100000b92ca60aRCRD.)

Lead learners to name the steps that someone from another country must complete in order to become a citizen of the US, and list these on the board. Compare the responses on the board with the eligibility requirements you have downloaded from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Point out that new citizens are required to forsake allegiance to their former country because they are now citizens of a new country.

Remind learners that Abraham was called to leave his country and his people to travel to a new land that only God could give to him. Express that Abraham accepted God’s call, thereby focusing his allegiance on God instead of the things he had known before God. Lead learners to discuss these questions:

Challenge learners to examine whether or not their primary allegiance is focused on God. Encourage learners to surrender willingly anything in their lives that pulls them away from this primary allegiance.
