Discussion: Strangers in a Foreign Place

Learners will discuss how it feels to travel or live in a place that is vastly different from their hometown.

Lead learners to share various places where they have traveled for pleasure or work. Then, ask: How did you know you were far away from home? (Note: This question will work best with those who have traveled to foreign countries or to vastly different areas of the US from their hometown.) Lead learners to discuss these questions:

In what ways were you different from the people in the city or country where you traveled?
What did you miss most from your hometown?
What did you learn about yourself from this experience?
What did it feel like to return home to those things most familiar and loved?

Explain that today’s lesson explores how living a life set apart for God makes us different from many of the people with whom we share this planet.
