Learners will identify the differences between two nearly identical pictures.
(5–8 minutes, moderate setup)
Using newspapers, puzzle books, or the Internet, locate a “What’s the Difference?” picture––two pictures placed side-by-side that, at first glance, appear to be identical, but, when examined closely, have several differences from each other. Print several copies or prepare to display the two pictures overhead.
Invite learners to work with a partner for this activity. Distribute copies of the “What’s the Difference?” pictures to each pair, or display pictures overhead. Allow up to three minutes for each pair to locate the differences in the two pictures. Then, call on volunteers to share their findings, making sure that all differences have been identified. Discuss: Which differences were the easiest to spot? Which ones were more difficult to find? Why?
Suggest that, at first glance, Christians may look much like non-Christians, but upon closer examination, one should be able to find many things about Christians that make them different from non-Christians. Explain that today’s lesson describes a few of these differences.
