(5–8 minutes, easy set-up)
Learners will discuss the visible results left by invisible things.
Write each of the following terms on its own sheet of paper: wind, gravity, love, and sound waves.
Divide learners into four groups, giving each group a sheet of paper with one of the words from the above list. Ask: What do all of these items have in common? (None of them can be seen, yet we know that each of them exists because we can see their effects.) Instruct each group to list ways that they know that their assigned item exists. Next, direct each group to list ways that people have harnessed the power of their assigned item for beneficial purposes.
After several minutes, lead learners to share their observations with the larger group. Then, ask: Do any of these items cease to exist if we choose to ignore them? How does ignoring them impact our lives? Conclude by explaining that this lesson will give learners the opportunity to examine how the Holy Spirit empowers us to live obediently before God.
