(5–8 minutes, moderate set-up)
Learners will use magnets and paperclips to illustrate the importance of relying on someone stronger than them.
Provide magnets of various strengths and metal paperclips.
Divide learners into groups of three to five people, giving each group an assortment of magnets and a box of metal paperclips. Encourage each group to discover how many paperclips (chained together) each magnet can lift. Then, discuss: What role does the paperclip play in this experiment? Point out that no paperclip can lift itself from the table; rather, the magnet must lift all paperclips. Ask: What determines the length of the chain? (Stronger magnets lift longer chains of paperclips.)
Conclude by explaining that this lesson will help learners examine the role of the Holy Spirit in enabling believers to live righteously before God.
