Learners will watch a scene from Rudy about an ordinary guy doing something extraordinary.

Provide a copy of the movie, Rudy, a TV, and a VCR or DVD player. Cue the DVD to 1:43:30, or the VHS to approximately one hour and 43 minutes into the film. (Editor’s Note: Most videos begin with a notice stating the video is intended for home use only. Some face-to-face teaching activities are considered fair use, but your church may want or need to obtain a license to show videos and films publicly. Say: There are times when un-extraordinary people do extraordinary things. Before showing the movie clip, set the scene by explaining that Rudy is based on the true story of a young man who’s greatest desire was to play football for Notre Dame. Explain that due to his small size, the coaches would not give Rudy the opportunity to actually play on the field. State that this scene shows how Rudy got the chance to do something extraordinary. Play the clip though the end of the movie (about five minutes). After the movie, discuss:

Say: God has always called people who felt un-extraordinary. This is a common theme in the Bible. Today we will look at Gideon and how he was seen through heaven’s eyes.
