Relational: Best and Worst

Learners will discuss their best and worst church experiences.

Divide learners into groups of three or four people. Encourage them to share their best and worst church experiences:

Briefly describe a time when your church family let you down or disappointed you.
Briefly describe a time when your church family responded to your needs in ways that far exceeded your expectations.
How can you use these experiences to shape your response to the needs of others?

After five minutes, call groups together. Ask: What happens when a church family meets, exceeds, or fails to notice the needs of its members? Following responses, conclude the activity by saying that today’s lesson focuses on the origins of the Church and its mission.
