Discussion: Winning Influence

Learners will discuss the influence of Christianity on culture and vice versa.

Write the following quote from Charles Colson on the dry erase board: “In these cynical and despairing times, the only hope for us to win the culture is by simply being the Church, living the love of our Christ.”

Divide learners into small groups. Show them the quote on the dry erase board, then prompt them to discuss the following questions:

Do you think that we are living in “cynical and despairing times”? Why or why not?
How does Christ help us to navigate these times?
How can we the Church “win the culture”? What would that look like?

Afterward, ask learners: Is the Church winning the culture to Christ or consistently losing influence? Following responses, conclude the activity by saying that today’s lesson gives us hope that our efforts to influence our culture for Christ are never in vain.
