Discussion: Trait Choices

(5–8 minutes, easy set-up)
Learners will list the character traits that they wish to cultivate or extinguish in their lives.

(5–8 minutes, easy set-up)
Provide paper and pens.

Divide learners into two groups. Give each group paper and pens. Instruct the first group to create a list of character traits that they like to see in others and want to develop in themselves. Instruct the second group to create a list of character traits that they don’t like to see in others and want to avoid in their own lives. After two minutes, place the lists next to each other. Then ask: How do we determine desirable and undesirable traits? How do these traits, both desirable and undesirable, shape a person’s character? Why is the composition of a person’s character so important?

Conclude the activity by explaining that today’s lesson focuses on the character traits that Jesus wants His disciples to develop.
