(5 minutes, easy set-up)
Students will use the concept of a mirror to examine their identity.
(5 minutes, easy set-up)
Download the Student Worksheet. Provide a pen and a copy for each student. Or, if you have purchased the Becoming Student Book, turn to page 12.
Distribute the pens and the “Creative Prayer” PDF, or, if you have purchased the Student Books, instruct students to locate the activity “Creative Prayer” on page 12. Say: You will notice a picture of a mirror on the page in front of you. What does a mirror make you think of? (Reflections; self; faces, etc.) What is a mirror’s purpose? (To reflect images) Explain that a mirror can be a powerful tool. It literally has the power to save lives. In a survival situation, a mirror can redirect the sun’s light and signal search parties for help.
Say: As Christ-followers, we have the opportunity to be mirrors that reflect God's glory to the world. Lead students to see what a powerful force their life can be if they reflect Christ’s light to a dying world! Explain that they have a chance to shine their light like Paul did.
Instruct students to write on the mirror a prayer expressing their desire to be a light to the world. Say: Then, pray quietly to God and turn your book at an angle to represent your willingness to reflect Christ to the world. After a few moments, close the activity by asking the Holy Spirit to give your students the power to make the kinds of changes they desire to make.
